Context
Packmind enables developers to improve the quality of their code by building common knowledge: practices, which can be disseminated throughout the organization.
The initial observation was that many users are lost in using the product and give up after subscribing. As for convinced users, they struggle to get their teams on board and demonstrate the value of the tool.
Using a Business Strategy Canva , we quickly identified the challenges we needed to overcome:
Ensure that product value is perceived within a minute
Increase the platform’s users count by a factor of ten
Increase in the number of created practices by a factor of ten
To monitor our success, we decided to track the following KPIs :
Churn rate during the onboarding
Number of users
Number of practices created
Design process
A product roadmap is now taking shape:
Design a customized tutorial for the Tech Lead's first steps on the product.
Rethink the platform's UX to ensure maximum accessibility.
Imagine a new way of creating and visualizing practices in Packmind and reimagine the AI functionality to guarantee a wow effect.
Develop a Design System to enable Packmind teams to become progressively independent on design issues.
The onboarding process is completely rethought, taking into account biases such as cognitive load, the anchoring effect and behavioral levers. The overall architecture is redesigned with a card-sorting exercise.
The animation of a Crazy 8 workshop helped us to come up with solutions, with the Packmind management team, to the following problem: “How can we enable the whole organization to share practices?” The votes allow us to identify the solutions we need to consider.
UX sprints conclude with the design of wireframes and the concretization of ideas generated in the ideation phases.
Results & impact
Packmind's main challenge lay in onboarding its users. Initially, the onboarding process was disjointed, interrupted by back-and-forth interactions within the IDE, and with poor prioritization of the platform's key use cases.
For this new design we emphasized on:
A method inspired by e-learning with "tutorials" that follow the "learn-practice-apply" cycle.
A closed tutorial focusing on the product's high-value features.
A dashboard listing the latest tasks to complete for using the product and highlighting its flagship features.
In the second phase of the mission, we focused on scaling the product.
Team-based structure streamlining practice navigation within complex organizations.
Bottom-up & top-down logics intersecting without interference.
The AI copilot prominently featured, valued, and designed as a distinct functionality.
